Character Background and Description Dien Vin Ngo immigrated from Laos during an AstroCorp recruitment drive in south east Asia when he was 21. He had grown up and worked on a rice farm, but as things got more and more automated, he found that there wasn't much left for him to do. So determined to find something better for his life, he joined up with AstroCorp and found himself operating a cargo lift in Manta.
Despite his initial enthusiasm to leave his country, he could only speak Lao and Vietnamese meaning his suffered immensely when it came to communicating. Lucky for him, the cargo were primarily marked with numbers and colors to streamline the process so his language barrier did not make it impossible for him to do his job. However, it was incredibly difficult for him to make friends or reach out and so he became more and more recluse, choosing to spend his free time staring at the ocean from the Cargo Bay or trying to cultivate vegetables in his Gridlock apartment.
Having spent a year working for AsterCorp, he has been able to pick up a lot of spanish as well as some english and mandarin, the other commonly spoken languages in Manta. But he still struggles with confidence issues, but he makes it his goal to improve, learning through websites at home and audio programs while working. At the moment, he has set his goal to talk to a cargo loader from Bay 4, an immigrant worker much like himself, but from China. He isn't confident enough in Mandarin to even ask for the man's name, but has set it his goal for the year.
